Shaun E. L. Wason, MD FACS is a faculty member in the Division of Urology and an Associated Physician of Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. He is a board-certified and fellowship-trained urologist specializing in minimally invasive urologic surgery. He uses robotic, laparoscopic, percutaneous and endoscopic techniques to treat a wide variety of urologic disorders. He performs laparoscopic radical nephrectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, prostatectomy and reconstruction of the urinary tract for renal and ureteral obstruction. He performs laser enucleation of the prostate for BPH (HoLEP/DiLEP) and offers a wide range of treatment options for all gland sizes including Rezum, Urolift, Optilume, TURP and simple prostatectomy. He has extensive experience in PCNL for large renal stones. His clinical research interests include radiation reduction in the operating room, patient education, surgical simulation, quality improvement and the application of 3D printing for surgical training.
DR. SHAUN WASON
Dr. Wason earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC in 2005 after receiving his honors bachelor of science degree in Forensic Science from the University of Toronto, Canada in 2001. He completed General Surgery internship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC and his residency in Urology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH in 2011. Dr. Wason completed his Fellowship in Endourology, Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia in 2012. He was recruited to join the faculty at EVMS in 2012 and was an Assistant Professor of Urology at EVMS prior to joining the faculty at Boston University/Boston Medical Center in 2016. In 2023 he joined the faculty at Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center and sees patients in his newly renovated practice adjacent to BID Milton in the Lintz Medical Office Building.
He currently collaborates with two engineering research departments at Boston University including the Ultrafast Optics and Material Robotics Laboratory. He has successfully mentored over 25 trainees including undergraduate, medical, and post-doctoral residents and fellows on a variety of research projects. Grants for student research have come from the BU Medical Student Summer Research Program, BU Educational Seed Grants, and the Endourological Society.
Dr. Wason is board-certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the Endourological Society and American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Urological Association, Canadian Urological Association and the Society for Benign Prostatic Disease.
